Skye Ridge Traverse - Potential traverse start
Skye Ridge Traverse - Day 1, Southern End
Skye Ridge Traverse - Potential bivy site
We’ll kick things off at Glen Brittle campsite, meeting at 7:00 am. After a quick gear check and briefing, we’ll set off toward the southern ridge. This is your chance to meet your guide and prepare for the adventure ahead. Starting the traverse from Glen Brittle gives us an optimal position to tackle the ridge efficiently.
We'll start at the southern end potenially meeting at Glen Brittle campsite to begin our adventure. Starting at the southern end of Glen Brittle, we’ll head towards Coir' a' Ghrunnda. Once on the ridge, we’ll drop our bags and ascend Sgùrr nan Eag, marking the first summit of the traverse. From there, we’ll continue along the ridge, tackling Sgùrr Dubh Mòr, Sgùrr Alasdair, and Sgùrr Mhic Choinnich before reaching the iconic Inaccessible Pinnacle. After abseiling off the Pinn, we’ll traverse towards Sgùrr na Banachdich, making our way along the southern ridge of Sgùrr a’ Ghreadaidh and on to An Dorus. By the end of the day, we’ll find a suitable bivy spot—usually near Banachdich or An Dorus—depending on team progress and weather conditions. After gathering water and enjoying dinner, we’ll settle in for the night, hopefully with a sunset view over the Outer Hebrides to cap off the day.
Bivying on the ridge is a memorable part of the traverse. We aim to bivy roughly halfway along the ridge, either at Sgùrr na Banachdich or An Dorus, depending on our pace and conditions. This is a true wilderness experience—expect a quiet evening under the stars, enjoying dinner, and organizing water for the night and the next day. With luck, the skies will treat us to unforgettable views.
Skye Ridge Traverse - Day 2, Northern End
Skye Ridge Traverse - Finish
We’ll start early to make the most of the day, packing up after a quick breakfast and brew. The northern section is where some of the most exposed and thrilling scrambling takes place. We’ll summit Sgùrr a’ Mhadaidh, making our way over the tricky section of 4 tops and An Casteil to the more straightforward Bruach na Frithe. The final stretch includes Am Basteir and Sgùrr na Gillean, two iconic summits that demand focus and determination. With the traverse complete, we’ll descend via Coire a' Bhasteir, heading for the Sligachan Hotel.
With tired legs and rumbling stomachs we have a refreshment the hotel before parting ways with memories for life!
One of the three days will be reserved as a rest day or a contingency for poor weather. This day can be taken at the start (Day 1) or the end (Day 3), depending on the conditions. On Skye, weather windows can be narrow, and it’s not uncommon to delay the traverse for safety. If conditions make the full traverse impossible, we’ll adjust and offer three single mountain days instead, ensuring you still get the most out of your time on the island.
Includes complete kit list, daily mileage charts, and meeting point coordinates for offline access.
