We meet and chat through the objectives for the week and what people want to get from the course. Your Instructor will check kit, chat through their thought process to maximise learning of the decisions made throughout the day. On the hill, we will recap core skills such as good footwork, efficient movement, and the use of the ice axe; balance, cutting steps and what to do if we do take a slide.
Today we can head for classic munro of Beinn Alligin and with the Gaelic translation meaning the Mountain of Beauty, it simply speaks for itself. With its steep sides we weave our way carefully to the summit of Sgurr Mor. Returning the same way.
Starting off near Loch Bharranch, we make the steep ascent towards Corie an Laoigh. Checking for the safest route with the current conditions we will make our way towards the summit of Spidean Corie nan Clach, taking in the breath taking views to all of the other summits we plan to or have already ascended over the 5 days
A steady walk in along the waters of the Kinlochewe River as we head towards the improbable fortress of Slioch. Once we get into close quarters we find that there is a reasonably straight forward way through this complex looking mountain. Once on top, the views across Loch Maree with the 55 islands and the Torridon peaks as a backdrop, the views are truly sensational.
Starting near Achnashellach Lodge, we make our way up the steep path towards the bowl of Corie Lair where we have a steady climb to the bealach. Looking for a little shelter for a snack stop before we head for the summit of Sgorr Ruadh. Depending on conditions we may make a horse shoe route or if needed we will retrace our steps back to the bealach.
