As always the objectives and the training areas will be weather and conditions dependent. The training focus will be on improving your core skills in the winter mountaineering environment. There will be a growing emphasis on your own ability to make decisions, whether it be about packing your bag, regulating your temperature or where to stop for a snack. Overall, you should expect to feel more confident and competent about mountaineering under your own steam and leave the course with more valuable experience under your belt. If condition allow we will head for the dramatic peak of Beinn Alligin
A massive day for one of the true classics of Scotland, regarded as many as the finest day in the Scottish mountains. With plenty of interest and jaw dropping views this day will last for many years to come! Dinner and pudding will be well and truly eared tonight!
Another true and sought after classic, Liathach. With a steep start from the road we wind our way up the hill side towards the first munro of Sail Laith. A great stop to trake in the breath taking views towards the Am Fasarinen Pinnacles, our mountaineering objective for the day. All but to soon we are back onto walking ground as we approach the final summit of Mullach an Rathain.
Ideal for those looking to experience the challenges and excitement of winter climbing while building confidence in snowy and icy conditions. Days may focus on guided climbing or skill development, with routes selected to suit your experience and goals. This is a perfect opportunity to explore Scotland’s winter landscapes with the support of an experienced guide.
Previous experience using crampons is essential, and a background in rock climbing or scrambling is highly beneficial. Depending on the day, you may focus on guided climbs or refining techniques such as moving on mixed terrain, placing protection in winter conditions, and ropework. A good level of fitness is required, as the terrain and conditions can be physically demanding.
